Engine Noise when cold

Postby NPathy15 » Tue Dec 02, 2014 5:52 pm

Hello all,

I've searched this topic but can't seem to figure it out. Its sort of interesting. I have a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder with 107k on the clock. When I start the truck (cold motor) its makes sort of a whirring noise as it runs. If you give it gas the noise goes away, when the motor warms up a little, the noise also goes away. I've watched a ton of videos on the timing chain and its not the same noise. Another interesting thing is, I bought this truck about 4 years ago with 50k on it and it has ALWAYS made this noise. The noise hasn't gotten any worse over the years either. I always keep my eye on it. On a cold start in the winter time its considerably loud, its a hum and it sounds like its coming from the top of the motor. Any ideas?

Possibly an accessory drive or idler/tensioner pulley bearing going bad? You could remove the drive belts and see if the noise goes away.
