Power Valve intake Manifold Screws Loosen

Postby suzonka » Fri Nov 06, 2015 10:14 am

I have seen service bulletins about this happening on on 2002 -2005 Pathfinders, the Power Valve intake Manifold Screws can become loose and fall into the pistons and destroy your engine , the fix is they take it apart and put lock-tight on the 12 set screws in the Power Valve unit intake manifold , a pretty big Job $$ . so now I find this out with 112,000 miles and still running smooth should I or would you have this fix performed at this point in time with out any problems so far?

It's really up to 2004 models; it wasn't an issue on R51s. It was also an issue on some of the QR25DE engines. Basically, it was just a matter of too little Loctite on the bolt threads for the power valve butterflies. I guess it's a matter of "better safe than sorry," not unlike the preventative maintenance of replacing radiators on 2005-10 Pathys. There's no guarantee that your radiator will fail if you own one, but what are the potential consequences if you don't?
If you pull the upper plenum and there is at least one loose screw, you may have saved a potential disaster. It would also be a good time to replace any hoses or valve cover gaskets that may be in need of replacing. On the other hand, if you find no loose screws, you have piece of mind of not having to worry about the screws falling out.

Thank you so much , It looks like a big job for me , I DON'T HAVE THE PATIENCE AS i DID WHEN YOUNGER PULLING ENGINES AND TYRANNY'S OUT TO REBUILD THEM . BUT IF A SHOP WOULD BE REASONABLE ABOUT IT i JUST MAY DO IT OR LAST RE COARSE SELL IT NOW AND GET SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T HAVE THOSE RADIATOR OR LOOSE SCREW PROBLEMS. sorry about these Cap buttons my big fingers . :D

Nissan should have recalled both of those issues, if they really cared about their consumers.
