08 SE OR or 08 LE V8??

Postby mtbnole » Mon Oct 27, 2008 10:14 am

hey guys, looking to maybe upgrade to a Pathy. I've found 2 I like, both 4x4, both 2008, both used.
08, SE OffRoad 4x4 18000 miles, loaded except navi.
08 LE V8 4x4 8000 miles loaded, except navi.

similar in price, what would you guys say? I miss the V8 from my Titan but dont care to get any worse mileage. on the other hand, i plan to hit some trails in the future and make the most of the 4x4, but what are the real benefits of the OR, since it does not have the e-locker like the Xterra does....

thanks

oh well, both of those are sold already, looking at an 08 SE 4x4 now, what are the actual options that an OR has over an SE?

Go for the V8 4x4.

I originally had a 2005 V6 and upgraded to a V8 when leased ended. Both 4x4. I ended up purchasing the V8 instead of a lease.

The V6 is a great engine. However, the V8 mileage is not that much different from the V6. Especially when you are gearing it up for an offroad rig, since the engine is not working as hard. You'll love the power. You can put 33" tires without re-gearing. The OR model is good becuase it gives you the Hill Ascent/Descent (wish I had that), upgraded shocks and some skids. Since you are going to offroad your Pathy, there are aftermarket parts (Shrockworks, ARB, ICON/RadFlo) that can make you rig quite capable offroad.

Another big advantage is that you get beefier differentials, R205 Front (same as Titan), R230 Rear (same as Armada) as opposed to the V6 R180/R200. Rumor has it that there will be a locker soon for the R205, and I already been test fitted for an ARB locker for the rear since the international Pathys use the R230. Although, they still have to make some modifications to fit the higher ratios that we have. Even if you just get the front lockers, you would be doing pretty good.

Hope this helps.

compared to the SE model, the OR has bilstein shocks, 16" rims, off-road-ish tires (if still stock), attitional skid plates, hill descent control, and the SE premium package

the premium package includes sunroof, auto headlights, homelink transmitter, upgraded bose stereo w/ 6 disc and 10 speakers (not hard drive storage radio), security system, steering wheel audio controls, radio aux input, speed sensitive volume, xm radio. (all according to edmunds.com)

there is no factory navigation system available for the 08 OR model. the upgraded radio has a display screen, but no nav.

I am averaging about 15.5 mpg in my V8, decent mix of city/highway. Considerably better than the truck from what I have read. It is a 2wd, though.

For my V8, I was getting about 16.8 City/Hwy mixed when stock, 4x4.
When I put on bigger BFG/AT tires (real heavy tires), Shrockworks skids and plates, I'm getting around 15.5 mix.

When I had my V6 4x4, I was getting about 16 mixed with Shrock and bigger BFG/AT tires. I was getting 17.3 to 18 mixed stock beforehand.

I drive conservatively, no heavy foot, but no grandma on a Sunday drive either.

2008 SE-OR
12,000 miles
$22,000!!!

any thoughts, I think this is a great deal, but tell me otherwise, i wanted one with the leather package, but at this price, i can live without it.

thanks

buying from a private party or a dealer?
assuming there is nothing wrong with it, the price is good if you are buying from a dealer, and average if you are buying from a private party.

Whatever you do, go get it as quickly as possible. That is a great deal for a slightly used Pathfinder.

hehe, dealer tried to hit me with $3300 in fees for the $22K Pathy OR, needless to say I am not happy about it. Might be able to work a deal still if they cut out all the fees, if not looking at a loaded OR same color, for 3 grand more (asking price), we'll see, I really want to make this work soon!!

Fees? What fees? I'd leave them my number, give them the bird, then just walk out. All the dealers are crying because they can't sell what they have, and they have to discount (mfr incentives) what they do have. Bottom line is they are not making any money these days, so they try to throw in rape & pillage fees. If they are going to pull that shit, it's time to find another dealer. If you know exactly what you want, tell them (or email them) how much you will pay and leave it at that. If they pull the "let me talk to my manager crap," just say "sure, you do that-give me a call when you agree to my price."
