V8 Exhaust Manifolds

Postby DanJetta » Tue Aug 09, 2016 2:42 pm

Any of you V8 guys ever have repeat issues with your exhaust manifolds?

I had both of mine replaced last October ($3,000 for factory Nissan manifolds) and I just found out they're cracked again. They're being replaced under warranty but it makes me want to get rid of the truck for when they break again a few months down the road out of warranty.

Dorman makes replacements for $350 per side.

The problem is also the fact that labor is $1200 to replace them.

I'm wondering if there's something else causing them to split. Seems kind of soon for them to both to break again.

That is kind of early, but it is a common problem on the 5.6L-V8. Nissan VG33 and Dodge 4.7L-V8 have similar problems with exhaust manifolds. I'm not sure what the header options are for that engine.

There are options out there, but not necessarily a perfect fit for the pathy... :(

go with JBA SHrt headers and add high flow cats if you have to have them. Or you can go with JBA Long tube Stainless steel like I did with no cats for less then $500. I am not going to tell you its an easy replacement. took me and my friend mechanic in his shop day and a half.

Just picked up the truck from the mechanic and he said the driver side manifold was split wide open. Though the passenger side did not appear to be split, he replaced both sides because the manifolds he got this time had a modification where the split was.

The scary thing is that the last replacements were an OEM dealer part. That means there are still faulty OEM parts in circulation in some places. I wonder how many people have had their radiators replaced with the exact same faulty part.

It's amazing how much smoother the truck runs and idles with a working exhaust, though.

Is there any way around doing a tune if I add headers to the V8? I am looking for the cheapest way to fix the cracked manifold vs getting additional power. This thing has plenty for me. I can get the long tube for under $500 and have them installed for $500. I don't want to spend an additional $500 on a tune but hear the Dorman manifold will crack just like the OEM ones do, due to the close cat and excessive heat build up.
