window switch question for you pathy guys

Postby mtbnole » Tue Jan 20, 2009 6:45 am

do the switches on the driver's door have auto up and down for both front windows? I am thinking of buying a the switch group from the pathy and swap it into my Xterra so i too can enjoy auto up AND down, and more than one window!

thanks

Only the driver window had the auto up/down feature befor the 2008 model. Now the 2008 and up have both driver and passenger auto up/down.

My '07 has the driver & passenger auto up/down on the driver's side. I thought all of the '05 and later models did.

I'd have to see a schematic, but I'm not so sure that the switch is the only element in the picture that handles the auto feature.

Ugh, there are a bunch of different schematics in the SM, all of which seem to be pointing to a "CPU" in the chain. There's only a 1 sentence description of the auto feature. The up & down are easy, as that is a manual process that opens/closes a circuit. The auto feature makes me think something else must come into play because the switch is simply pressed once also, but the circuit acts like it's regulated by something.

Maybe someone who actually knows something definite will chime in.

Steve -

I can only guess that it is somehow controlled by the switch itself. I have the auto-up/down feature on the driver's window, and I detect a slight detent along the travel of the button. I don't feel that on the passenger-side window switch. That leads me to believe that it's in the switch. Having said that, however, I am prone to occasional brain farts, :? and the wiring schematic could also somehow factor into the equation.

If someone wants to risk a hands-on swap, please post your results. Hell, I'd like to have one-touch on all four of the switches! 8)

the easiest way to find out is to swap the wires (via jumper) to the other switch. For example, connect the switch for the driver's side to the passenger side wiring and see if it changes to one-touch. If so, then it's the switch. If not there is a "CPU" controlling things.
