Do i need stronger tires

Postby graftoon » Fri May 08, 2009 8:38 am

Now that im adding more weight to the pathy, How do i determine if i need XL tires (extra load) or stronger truck tires. When i loaded on all my camping gear the tires look little more compressed.

Current Tires :

TOYO Country A/T 265/75/16 114S Strandard Load 1180(2601 lbs.)

I think LT load range D will suffice for all your weight needs, and then some. I recently purchased Nitto TGs load range E which is overkill (i wanted as much side wall ply as i could get given the terrain where i live / work). They drive well and i'm happy with the ride, but i think i'd have been just fine w/ Ds as well.

Well, do you have an idea how much your pathy weighs ready to go? At first glance the tires you are running are more than enough. 2600 lbs per tire more than covers the stock weight of 4859lbs (06 LE 4wd, YMMV). But where you get into the grey area's are psi's and sidewall strength. Those tires are prob built for a max of 35psi. When fully loaded you might want a little less tire squirm and less body roll and 40 or 45 psi might make for a better ride. But with that tire you can't, safely, run that high. But with XL's or other D range or E's you can.

Find the manu pub'd curb weight and scale out your rig in full camping trim and go from there. Otherwise its all speculation.

thanks for the feedback, it is very helpful. i think im gonna save up for some 41-45 psi sturdy ply LT tires maybe the Xl's , just to be safe i dont wanna risk saftey or anything else. :)
