Upgrading Head unit

Postby Aft3rburn » Thu May 07, 2020 10:54 am

Ok, first things first:
I bought a used 2006 Nissan Pathfinder LE, it came with an aftermarket Kenwood DVD player DDX514 and it no longer works. NAV never worked on the Kenwood, so I don't think my Pathy came with NAV. I've since bought a new 1-DIN DVD player with flip-up screen and tried the installation.

When I removed the old head unit, I noticed there were 4 electrical connectors, two up top and 2 down below. I noted that the radio wiring harness was connected to the two lower connectors, and the two up top weren't connected to anything. What are the two connectors on top for? Steering Wheel Control? The buttons on the left side of my steering wheel appeared to do nothing, like Volume +/- or source select, etc.

I'm just curious on what the two connectors up top do? They're also smaller than two down below.

I found a picture that I think resembles the stock unit and the plugs

Question - where'd you get the radio and install kit? If it was from Crutchfield and you specified the LE with Bose for example, it should have included a kit fro Metra or someone with cables pinned out for your stock controls. Or, at the very least it would tell you it won't work with steering wheel buttons, etc.

Oh, and try the full service manual (FSM) posted here on the forum, the electrical section may have the cable diagrams for this.

Thanks a lot!!

I ended up getting a 1-DIN flip-up 7†screen DVD/Nav/Backup camera/Bluetooth head unit (pretty much does everything I want it to.)

I have pictures on my phone where I pulled out the aftermarket adapters.

I saw two smaller plugs just hanging there behind the screen and am wondering what those connections are for?

I have some experience in car audio installs.

Don't know directly, I have a non-Bose SE.

But looking at Crutchfield if you have Bose and no Navigation, you need these adapters so...

I would go look in the Nissan manual to see if this is something you can splice yourself. Otherwise, Crutchfield only provides the instructions if you buy the kit stuff from them...

I don't know if my Pathy came with Sat-Nav or not, but I do know it came with a Bose subwoofer installed at the third row seat. -edit- I don't think it did come with a sat-nav, because either it didn't come with, or a previous owner removed the GPS antenna

This first picture is of the wiring as I pulled out the old Kenwood DDX514. I have two connectors up top which I don't know what they're for, I'm holding the 16 pin connector with 3 wires hooked into it: a blue with silver stripe, a light brown with silver stripe, and a red with silver stripe

In the below picture, I have a 12 pin connector with a few more wires in it, Anyone know what they're for?

The above picture, turned over the connector to see the other wires.

I'm believe this harness is correct?
