Regualr or Premium fuel?

Postby Silvermouse5150 » Mon Aug 03, 2009 10:16 pm

I have a 2006 SE 4WD.
I will be driving 85% Freeway, 15% non-Freeway.

Which fuel grade should i use?

The manual recommends Premium, but says it will run on Regular.

So far, ive been using Premium.
Maybe i should try Midgrade?

Here in Atlanta, i believe the octane levels goes like this
Premium - 93
Midgrage - 91
Regular - 89

Please let me know your experience and if you have had any bad ones from using the regular grade.

-Thanks everyone

Premium. Always. It feels better, especially when driving on the highway.

I drive an 08 OR. I (very) rarely tow. Mostly highway miles to date, but some city (and a lot of off-pavement) in the mix.

I run 87 (reg) almost exclusively. I run Premium once in a while, meaning about once every three months, to baby it a little. I add injector cleaner every 12k or so,... (25k and counting on my pf).

No issues to date: no pinging, no nothing. if you're towing or adding strain, consider the good/expensive stuff, otherwise only once in a while and she'll love you just the same.

One note: most miles to date on my PF are in west TX and northern Mexico. I'm not sure of ethanol/other mixtures in those regions which may affect things.

Well here in the mideast, we get 95 octane and 97..we run 97 all the time,,95 (regular in this part of the world) runs for 6.25 per gallon and 97 runs for 6.75 so its just .50 of a difference..
But ive also heard fuel in this part of the world is supposed to be mixed with additives..i don know how far this is true though..

Well here in california the best is 91 and the pathfinder seems to like it much better than running 87.

I use 87 most of the time and sometimes will throw in mid grade. I only have 15k miles on mine but every oil change i put fuel system cleaner in it and im averaging 16.5 miles now and havent had any issues. thank goodness.

Im finding my self running 93 more and more. To be a fact last weekend i went camping with towing a boat. I had 87 in at the start and had no power as well as crappy gas milage. I put in 93 after (fill tank of 93) and finished my weekend. I gained 2mpg and had tons of more power. ( went from 15 to 17.5mpg.)

I run 89 octane here in Birmingham, AL. Was getting 16 mpg more or less in town until the mandate to ethanol mix and now get 15ish in town. Just took a trip to the beach, first half ethanol mix got 19.5 mpg. Second half found some 100% gasoline and got just over 20mpg on the ride back home. Both tanks were 89 octane.
