Spare tire installation

Postby Spatula » Sun Aug 09, 2020 11:15 am

Hi all,

When I removed my spare today to clean it and lube the mechanism, the tire was facing upwards. My previous vehicles, and my Ranger, all have the spare face down... Can anyone confirm which is correct for the R51?
Also, the manual refers to a "rubber spacer," but all I've got is a rubber cover (part#58221). Should there be a spacer in there as well? My tire actually has dents formed into it where it was pressed against the frame mount, so I feel like it was missing the spacer, upside down, or just way too tight...?
Thanks!

I took mine off recently to throw a new tire on it and it was face up which makes sense because you don't want the chain/mount scratching the face of the rim. I need to do that on my Frontier because my Frontier's spare is face down. I don't recall seeing any type of spacer under there though. If I'm missing one, I need to get a replacement part for it too.
