There have been times when I've thought of selling my 2006 LE and getting something smaller and better on gas, such as a Rogue or Subaru Forester. Being that I work in Corrections, I have to report to work regardless of the weather conditions, so I need something that has 4WD or AWD. Then I get thinking about it and change my mind, one of the reasons being that it is so good in snow! Not that we get a lot of it where I live, but when we do, like this past Saturday in VA, it was nice to know that I would be getting home without an issue. The deepest snow I've seen here since I moved from NJ was 8". Unplowed side roads were no problem! Saturday morning saw 4" of snow accumulate in a little over 2-hours! Main roads that had recently been plowed were already covered over. Vehicles without 4WD shouldn't have even been out on the roads, but they were and were struggling bad to get traction. About 2 miles from my house on an unplowed side road, I came across a fellow officer from another institution sitting sideways in the road with his Honda Fit. I stopped for a while to see if he could get it straightened out and going again but it was apparent that it wasn't going to happen. When he tried to accelerate, he'd slide and get the front wheels over the edge of the road. If he got off the edge and back onto the road, he couldn't get any traction and would slide off again. I strapped him up and a tractor showed up and was nice enough to plow a section of the road to his driveway, about 1000' up the road. I ended up having to back my Pathfinder into the ditch on the opposite side of the road in order to get him where he could get finally get in a position to get up to the road. In low gear with the left side deep in a ditch and the right side on the edge of the road, I struggled for about 20-seconds before I was able to reverse my way back onto the road and then go home and get dry! This is the reason I'll be keeping my Pathy for at least a few more years!
