"Mooing"

Postby palmerwmd » Tue Feb 22, 2022 10:15 pm

So lately in the mornings the vehicle has started mooing a bit when I pull out of my parking spot.
Noting crazy but enough to notice it.

So I figured the main culprit is low power steering fluid.

However I am in Florida and if anything it has warmed up lately and mornings are about the same temps as the high of the day was just a few days ago (when there was no mooing)
So fluid contraction due to cold should not be a cause.

I finally check tonight (68F) my fluid, its near the cold Max.
So I am not low..

Fluid I believe is only a year old too (but its the green Prestone PS fluid not ATF)

Thoughts?

I can say for sure that it is the problem, but Nissan only recommends red P/S fluid or red ATF to be used in their P/S systems. Prestone green is used mainly in European makes.

I noticed increased "mooing and groaning" in December as the temps got colder.
Since I was replacing my P/S rack due to a minor leak, I changed the pump out ($50)

Green?

I replaced all the fluid, still doing it.
Lets face it, the PS pump is on its way out... :?

Yeah. There's not much more that can be done. At least a reman one is more than reasonable in cost.

I'm reminded of that kid in the Chick-Fil-A commercial pointing at the roof of the minivan and saying, "Cow...."

Just so the Moo-Goo isn't made with chicken s#%t.
