In regards to the temp needle sticking. I tried running the Nissan cluster guage test method by turning ignition to on but engine off. Then pressing the trip button 3 times. I couldn’t get that to work. Is it the same method for the R51?
No, it's a different procedure on the R51. See MWI-23 here:

Worked fine, made a weird mechanical grinding noise from behind the unit whilst test was performed.

I just checked my lower radiator hose the one that connects to the thermostat at cold temperatures. When I gently squeeze it I hear the usual radiator neck water gushing noise but I also hear a ticking like metal type noise from I think the engine side where the thermostat is. A faint light ticking clicking when I squeeze that hose.

Is that the noise from the coolant pushing at the thermostat ?
It might just be the jiggler in the "burp hole" that you're hearing, but it isn't normal for a 'stat to make audible noise. I doubt it's a broken spring, that will generally make the 'stat unable to close and will cause long warmups and not overheating. In any case, maybe something metal is broken off and kicking around in there. I think I'd take a look, and just replace the 'stat while you're in there anyway.

Grinding in the cluster isn't normal either. Boy, this truck of yours has some weird a$$ issues.

Logged some more temp values using the logger.

Top hose 200F bottom hose 130F approx

When driving might drop to 217-219F else always at 221F .

That sounds like the radiator is okay. The engineers pretty much always locate the sensor at the hottest part of the engine, which isn't always the 'stat housing. So 200F at the outlet doesn't mean the sensor is lying. I'd say it's looking like a dying 'stat, try that first.

Will do thanks.

I'll second that dying thermostat.

In a twisted way I’m hoping the one they pull out is a non oem one.

It’s going in tomorrow to get the thermostat replaced. I ordered a genuine one with gasket from Nissan.

Just a couple more observations to add since my last post.

The temp needle definitely works , as it seems to to go almost to midway when driving up a hill even with little to no throttle. It’s peaks at approx 227F scanner shows 108C. Then drops back to around 106-105C.

Just an update. The thermostat got replaced today and all seems good. Temps didn’t exceed 195F now.

Quick question you know the orange stickers on the rad and reservoir caps? Are they just aesthetic?

If you mean the one that says...

никогда не открывать горячим
決して熱く開かない
JAMAIS OUVERT à CHAUD
NIE HEIß öFFNEN
NEVER OPEN HOT

...then no, unless you happen to like burn rehab and would like to try it out. :P

Haha. I guess what I was trying to say is that orange label , if it’s removed what’s underneath it. Feels like a hole under the label.

It's not a hole. Generally it's a rivet that keeps the upper spring retainers from moving around. Sometimes they're constructed with blind hollow rivets inserted from inside, and that makes them feel like they might be a vent hole. They aren't, they're sealed.

I just looked at the old thermostat and housing for markings. All I could see was “motorad “ written on it. I assume it wasn’t a Nissan part.
