07 Pathfinder blower issue

Postby cdretc » Tue Jul 26, 2022 6:39 am

The blower only works on setting 4 (highest) but the A/C gets turned off when switched to setting 4. The A/C can be turned on on settings 1-3. I changed the resistor with a brand new aftermarket one, but no change. Any ideas? Thanks

That will almost certainly be a bad switch. The high speed bypasses the blower resistor with its own, separate switch throw, so the resistor can't be responsible. High speed also has a wire that bypasses the resistor and it's remotely possible you have a wiring issue. The switch is located on the ground side of the motor and the White wire at the switch is spliced to the Blue wire at the resistor and blower (that's the bypass). So just ground the White wire with a temporary jumper. If the blower comes on high then the switch is bad, if not there's a wiring issue.

Oh, wait, I mis-read that, you're talking about the compressor signal and the blower. It's still probably the switch, but the blower-on signal goes out on the Brown wire at the switch and the Red wire at the resistor. Look for 0V at both locations when the blower is on, and 0V at the Black wire on the switch. If it's much above 0V at Brown or Red but not Black then the switch is the likely culprit, if it's also much above 0V at Black then the switch ground is bad..

Thanks for the response. Sorry, was waiting for an email notification, so I never saw your answer. Can you clarify what you mean by switch? The thingy with the numbers 0-4 that you turn on to operate the fan? It kinda sounds like there is some other swith on the blower that I need to find...

At what setting should the switch be when checking. The blower doesn't work at 1-3, but the AC turns on. The blower works at 4, but the AC turns off.

Ok, so I'm getting 12V on 0 at both the brown and red wires, 0V at 1-3 at both and 12V at both on setting 4. Switch or resistor?

Like I said, the blower-on signal is ground on the Brown wire at the switch and the Red wire at the resistor (the wires are joined inside the harness). Look for 0V at both locations when the blower is on at any speed. If it's much above 0V at both then the switch is the likely culprit. If it's above 0V at one or the other then it's a wiring problem. If it looks like the switch, make sure the switch ground is good. If Black goes much above 0V at any speed then you have a crappy ground and not a bad switch.
