Clearcoat Eroded?

Postby bozoneX » Sun Sep 24, 2023 7:30 pm

I bought my 2010 used. It's got scratches and dings all over it, but today was the first time I tried to properly wax it. It coated evenly everywhere but the top of the hood. All the paint looked about the same before , but now I notice the center of the hood has a rough texture and it doesn't really take the wax the same way. Has the clear completely cooked off, or can I apply something to revive it or does it need clearcloat?

I think the last micron or two of clear is still left, but it's only enough to shine from 10 feet away. I might try spraying clear over it, or maybe just vinyl wrap if it gets real ugly.

Looks like mine did before the clear coat started to blister off slowly. That look is the clearcoat already delaminating from the paint. A clearcoat added on top could give it more life before it flakes off.

You guys dont think a nice heavy wax would help it?
Like maybe one of those colored waxes?

Yep. A heavy wax, like Meguiar's or Mothers carnauba wax, will help prolong its life.

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna slather as much wax on as I can. I have a feeling whatever clean and prep would be needed to spray would remove even more than I want and end up a waste of time.
