2012 Alternator >> 2005 Pathfinder

Postby TooMuchControl » Mon Apr 01, 2024 4:16 am

Question for those that may know the difference.

The 2005-2007 R51 has a different alternator number, than from 2008-2012
From what I see, there are two differences:
1. the manufacturer change that occurred from Hitachi to Valeo.
2. There is a rear clock position difference, from 9 o'clock, to 10 o'clock - and this appears to be just the plug connections.

The 130 amp versions appear identical in size, pulleys, etc.

Would there be any issue in installed a 2011 R51 Alternator onto the 2005 (130 amp version) other than the connection position noted above?

I can't speak to the mechanical aspect, but if it does fit in the hole then it should work fine. Electrically they're identical.

I think there are two part numbers, the original 100 amp my 2005 came with, and the later 110 amp alternator. I installed the latter about two years ago and it's been swell.

2010+ Alternator fit - but does not fit.

The "o'clock" position on MY05 mattered vs the 2010+
Installs ok on the engine.

Cabling is the issue.

The battery cable connection on the alternator, and wiring harness down through to the starter, interfered with the power steering pump mounting. Found that that the engine wiring harness differs from 2008+ to account for a change in cabling on NissanPartsDeal to verifiy.

That original part of the harness is simply too stiff and compact to bend out of the way properly to make the pump slide in and it gets very close to the exhaust manifold and clips on the PS bracket.

MY05 does have a 130 amp alternator and appears the original build year on it. Made In Japan Hitachi.
I think there was a 110 amp version for the base models, and they upped it for the SE, etc.
