Ex Xterra Owner, New R51 (V8) Owner

Postby Nd4SpdSe » Thu Sep 19, 2024 11:18 am

I've been around the Nissan truck community for a while with friends driving a variety of trucks. I bought my 2003 Supercharged 5-Speed Xterra back in 2008 following a failed deal for an R50. I drove that truck until 2021 when I retired it for a rusting frame. I wanted to find another one to transfer my parts over but they were hard to find or thanks to the pandemic, were asking a stupid price. Some just didn't want to deal with me, exporting a truck from the USA to Canada, or one guy in Alberta thought I was a scammer. My parents and friends wanted me to get something else, but I wanted mid-sized and I didn't want a pickup. I just haven't been sold on the gen2 Xterra either. Discouraged, I stopped shopping for one for a few months.

While on a camping trip I had a Pathfinder pop up in my MarketPlace feed. I had totally forgotten about the V8 version. Back from vacation we went to take a look at it. While we really liked the idea of the truck, this particular one was too beat up. I then went looking around the net for the next few months and found out in British Columbia that looked to be in great shape. The add mentioned a new transmission so likely a SMOD victim and also likely discouraged others from looking at it, fearing the dreaded CVT. Gas prices were also outrageous at that time which made gas guzzling vehicles not very attractive. First time buying a vehicle unseen, I got it inspected at the Nissan dealership across the street then arranged to have it shipped the 5000 kilometres to my door. The day after it arrived I did both front wheel bearings and a ball joint and sent it to get aligned. From there it needed a provincial inspection, which failed needing two rear shocks. Using the Xterras plates to drive it around (only for the alignment and inspection) I did the shocks in the parking of of the inspection garage and went in the next morning to get it validated and able to get plates for it that day. It was an interesting experience.

From there I`ve been working hard to getting it caught up in mods. The sale of the Xterra funding the 2.9 to 3.36 regear with both front and rear TRE 4x4 E-Lockers. A basic lift was also a priority as the Michelins that came with it, despite having a good amount of tread, decided to crack the year after.

From my worklog on the CNTC forums, here`s what I`ve gotten done so far.

I`ve been busy. It hurt going back to a stock truck, lol. It feels much more "me" now. 8)
