Anybody have the part number for the proper Optima? My OEM battery was having trouble starting this morning, 56K miles and crazy cold weather (for CA) this morning and it's just not happy...

JEGS lists the red top as 9020-164. They sell it for 149.99. Here in Vancouver, they're going for up to 229.99. JEGS sounds like a good deal for a great battery. :P

Cranked over twice and didn't fire this moring, doh. 32 degree weather is unusual for us Californians, we and our batteries aren't used to it! :P

I'm not sure whether to go red or yellow.

I'm thinking yellow right now, but not sure if red would be just fine as well.

My OEM battery has been struggling the last few days in the cold also. So, I need to revisit buying a new one. Optima batteries are interesting in that I can find a lot of real sketchy reviews out there, and a mix of good and bad reviews from owners on various forums. I'm not sure what I would choose at this point. How do etailers handle warranty claims? It might be another $60 to buy locally, but it might be worth it in the long (or short, per many reviews) run.

Anyone have any experience with these?:

Or the Exide Orbital battery?

Hm, the google ad below gives http://bigtimebattery.com which has a D35 Optima Yellow Top for $171 with free shipping. They also carry Odessy, but no idea about comparable part numbers...

I paid $185 for my Optima Yellow Top at Advanced Auto Parts and they installed it for me.

I had a red top Optima in my CJ7. It lasted me 7 years and many offroad trips. I remember playing music all night long while camping and my Jeep started up on the first try with no battery issues. Is a yellow top a deep cycle battery?

I just replaced my battery on the 2nd of Jan. Paid 85.00 at Auto Zone for a Duralast Gold with 735 CCA. The original battery was starting to die.

Red is starter, Yellow is deep cycle, Blue is Marine/RV and seriously deep cycle. My new Yellow is running great, can even clearly hear the motor crank much faster when starting. We'll see how long it lasts.
