my mishap

Postby HillbillyJake » Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:43 pm

On the 15th of December I had a fender bender. I am a little jacked with Nissan because I am still waiting on the front bumper. now you would think with as common of an accident as front to rear end collisions are Nissan's warehouses would stock them. no I have to wait on the factory. from what I have been told is because 08 was when they changed bumpers to the one piece there is no aftermarket one yet. not that I want an aftermarket one I prefer OEM materials. all I want is to get my truck back. it has been snowing here everyday and my rental sucks in the snow.

Glad you're ok. What happened? Did you tap someone in the back or something? Bags OK?

ya I did not stop as fast as the Jeep in front of me. bags are ok though. it was a slick morning with crappy weather on a bridge.

That's too bad. Hope it gets cleared up soon.

Also, I'm curious what they meant by "one piece". My 2005 bumper cover is one piece as well. As far as I know, only the Frontiers have the 2-piece covers.

not sure to be honest. all that I know is 08 and up does not have the seam in it. mine is solid all the way up to the fenders and grille.

2007 and lesser comes with a seam in the middle of the bumper that makes it easier to cut and replace in an accident. (they can remove only the bottom part if neccesary)

2008+ is part of the facelift with a solid bumper all the way thru.

At least it just looks cosmetic and didn't hurt the important parts. I would take a close look at the radiator just in case. Do the bypass in case the radiator got tweaked, so you don't have to get the transmission replaced later because of it developing a crack from the sudden jarring.

has the plastic been peeled back to determine if there is any damage beneath it? it'd be a shame to wait for a new bumper only to have further delays due to deeper damage.

I finally got my truck back late last week. they did a good job with it. they replaced everything from the radiator forward including the rad. also the inner fender on the right side, coolant bottle, all of the bumper brackets and all of the rad support brackets. the only thing the did wrong when the put it back together is they accidentally switched the lines for the washer fluid. I went to clean the windshield and the wipers started going and the rear sprayer started spraying. other than that so far so good.

Did they use an OE rad? What was the PN?

it took me about 5 seconds to realize what happened. then I had to laugh about it also. as far as the rad. I will pull the estimate to see what rad they used.
