Comapre Gas Mileage

Postby se7en » Mon Mar 22, 2010 9:58 am

OK I know this has been done before.... But lets compare how many miles you get out of your tank... I usually fill almost at the very end...

I get exactly 250miles per tank which is 1/4 highway driving and the rest is city.

I think i have gotten about 310 miles once but that was all hwy driving.

Is this normal? Mind you I am young so i might be driving a little rough...

Coming from a Maxima that got much better mileage, I've found myself driving very gingerly to keep the mileage up. As a result I'm getting about 290 out of a tank.

I do entirely surface road driving in the suburbs. No highway driving to speak of so that hurts a bit of course. It would take a lot more highway driving to get my average up. I'm consistently reading in the mid-15's on my Fuel Economy page.

I haven't figured out the fuel guage yet....but now that weather has cleared I'm averaging 18-19 and going about 340 miles before the light comes on. I can only get 18 gallons in the tank though...so either the guage is on major nanny mode or this tank doesn't hold nearly what is advertised. How far have you folks driven with the light on?

You drive in the city. End of story. For my commute I generally get EPA highway or better. I was expecting 20 with the Pathfinder but haven't hit it yet. We're still on winter fuel though so I'll bet I get there soon.

I was getting 17 with a V8 Tundra and 52 with a VW Jetta diesel.....it's rural state routes 55mph posted, usually run 65mph with some hot-rodding but a total of two traffic lights and two stops signs door-to-door.

My wife gets the pathy as the DD car and can get ~18mpg, half and half...it's not bad...however if you compare it to the old car (civic) then yes its horrendous... :)

Tank Fill

Postby trbran02 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 6:05 pm

I can vouch that the tanks hold 21 gallons. I was towing my Bronco home from Tennessee and just about ran out before I made it in. I filled up with 21.5 gallons and the motor was still running fine not a miss or sputter so there was still more in the tank.

I purchased my PF about 2 months ago. For the first few tanks I was using gas from the local "Tom's" gas station and the 7-11 gas station near my work. I do about 90% highway driving and I have a heavy foot. I was getting 16.5 mpg.

The last 4 tanks of gas, I used gas from Exxon. Driving habits have not changed and nothing else was done to the truck and now I am getting over 17.7 mpg. I filled pumped 18.5 gallons today and had about 330 miles on the tank.

I will change the measuring unit tomorrow to see what the MPG reading is, but I'm getting about 13.5L/100km. It's gotten down to about 12.2L/100km when I'm on the highway.

My car is a U.S. import, so the trip meter shows about 320 miles when the light comes on. My driving is mostly city, so about 80/20 city/hwy.

EDIT: 13.5L/100km read 17.3mpg on the screen.

se7en, on the average, your miles divided by the gallons consumed = ?.

Have you adjusted for the speedo/odo difference when calculating? Or can you adjust this on the Pathfinder? I made the same change on my Tundra at one point (265/65-17 highway tire to a 265/70-17 A/T). IIRC it's about a 3% LESS miles driven than actual. So if odometer reads 300 miles at fillup, it would actually be 309. Not a big difference but an easy .5mpg just from math.

When I bought the PF I noticed that the speedo was off by 4mph slower. So If the speedo said 65 I was doing about 62. I compared with GPS and others. So I did the calc and found that a 265/70r17 would fix the problem. Now the speedo is on the dot. But I picked load range E tires that are heavyer for 1/2 ton trucks so they are harder to keep spinning.
