2007 Fuel Cap Door Won't close..Again

Postby smithb84 » Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:31 pm

Okay so as the title suggests, I have a 2007 whose Fuel cap door (the actual cover/door and not the fuel cap just to be clear) won't close. I had this happen before, but it was shortly before I took it to the dealership and they fixed it for free. BUT, I know there is a 'spring' that just needs to be adjusted to do this. Only problem is I don't know how to do this.

I swear I saw this earlier but I can't seem to find anything now. I can take the spring, which is more just a clip, out but I can't exactly figure out how it is supposed to sit in order to work properly.

Living here in Oregon, I can't pump my own gas so knowing how to fix this issue would be a life saver.

I thought the fuel door can be open when you unlock the vehicle and can be locked when vehicle is locked, try unlocking door before you close it.

No that's not it. The spring which controls the door, and prevents it from swinging open when the car is unlocked, fell out of place. I can not figure how to re-attach the spring to allow the door to function properly.

Yeahp, that's the thread I was thinking of. I just forgot that it was on another forum. I may try that bit with the magnets actually because for the life of me I can't seem to fiddle with the clip enough to get it to work right.

Thanks
