Recall on late model Paths for fuel gauge and brake pedal?

Postby HuskerPath » Thu Apr 29, 2010 3:07 pm

Does anyone have any info on recalls for fuel gauge and brake pedal issues? I remember seeing something about it in the media a couple of months ago but my dealer is still saying he hasn't heard from Nissan about it. Thanks. :D

Despite no reported accidents or injuries, here's everything you need to know about the big Nissan recall announced today.

540,000 cars have been recalled by Nissan Motor over faulty brake pedal issues that may also affect the fuel gauge.

As the AFP reports this morning, the recall covers "the Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56 built from 2005 to 2008, and the Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008." The brake pedals could have faulty components that can cause the pedals to wobble, AFP reported.

The WSJ notes that the move comes on the heels of Nissan recalling more than 70,00 vehicles in Japan over engine electric cables. The vast majority of vehicles, some 418,865, are U.S. models.

Here's more from the AFP: "Vehicles at higher mileage levels may have fuel gauges which incorrectly indicate the amount of fuel in the tank. This may result in the vehicle running out of fuel while the gauge reads greater than empty."

Just as an update...

I just got off the phone with my local dealer about this recall. It seems even the new parts they are using to replace the defective units are not solving the issue. A hold was placed until they can figure out how to get this resolved.

I drop my 2008 off tomorrow for the fuel sender recall. My recall notice only mentions 2006 and 2008 model years being recalled. I looked up the recall campaign bulletin at nissanhelp.com. It has reference #NTB10-031 at the top and is dated March 18, 2010.

FWIW, I never got a card/letter from Nissan saying there was a recall on my 2006, but I got a call from the dealer last week saying there was an outstanding recall on my car.

I didn't get any news on either!!! The fuel sensor was changed ONLY when I saw it wasn't reading right. That was done back in 2009 but still nothing about the brake pedal problem. Guess I'll give the dealer a call and thanks for the heads up!!
