2004 Pathfinder -Engine Knocking- New Motor?

Postby jgomes03 » Thu May 20, 2010 2:18 pm

I brought my 2004 Pathfinder with 75,000 miles to the dealership because there was a knocking noise coming from the motor. In neutral, park, drive; it knocks. The more I accelerate the more knocking. Anyway, I took it to the dealer and they told me the rockers were shot and I needed a new motor. I take very good care of my vehicle. I use midgrade gas and change the oil/filter every 3000miles. Any ideas? Thanks

They are correct, the problem is probably the rockers. But they are full of sh*( saying you need a new motor. All you need done is have the heads rebuilt. If you do it yourself, ie remove the heads, take them to a shop to rebuild then install yourself, it would cost 400-600. if you take it to a mechanic it would run 1000-1500. While a new enginer would run you 4-6k.

it's bad, but not nearly as tragic as the mechanic made it sound, then again there looking to make money.
