Fuel Use

Postby amr40509 » Thu Jul 06, 2006 12:29 pm

Just some observations so far:

I've tried 93/92/89/87 octane and don't see any change in useage or performance in my 2006.

Before I tow the boat I usually let the tank get as low as I can for a few days and fill up the rest of the way with 93oct.

I have been getting between 21.8-22.6 mpg on the highway.

Around town 15-16.

Towing a 22' boat (4000-4500lbs) I get 11.4-11.6 on the highway at 65-70mph and 13-14 on back roads (I guess wind drag at the higher speeds??).

This is on a '06 4x4 S with the General Grabber tires. 2,850 miles driven so far.

Of course you don't. If it doesn't require 93 octane, don't use it. It just wastes your money.

Yeah.... per the manual

" RECOMMENDED FUEL:
Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane
rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number
(Research octane number 91).

For improved performance, NISSAN recommends
the use of unleaded premium gasoline
with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI number
(Research octane number 96)."

For my old Murano I did some octane vs. HP/MPG tests and did find substantial gains with premium fuel. I'll have to do the same with the Path here at some point for fun...

I have found that if I use regular, it runs a little rough. So I just fill with the mid grade and it runs great. I don't bother with the premium fuel. Besides my AAA credit card basically gives me the difference between of plus and regular.
