U joints- how did you get em out?!

Postby 05seOffRoad » Mon Nov 29, 2010 3:43 pm

My buddy and I tried and tried and just could not get the u joint out that goes into the front of the transfer case. We could not loosen the bolts to drop the shaft, we tried hitting the u joints out while the shaft was still bolted in but nothing.

I searched and saw this is a common problem and folks have changed em. but HOW?!?!! lol

You could try pressing them out like this guy did with his Xterra:

may also want to try spraying them with deep creep or pb or somin & letting it sit overnight. i did that to mine, and they weren't that bad.

When I did mine a while back, I couldn't get the bolts off to drop the shaft either. I had a few that eventially rounded off and forced me to use a grinder to remove the heads of the bolts. It was the only way for me.
