HID for 2008

Postby pathology » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:03 am

OK, I know this is kind of a covered topic, but I'm looking to do something about the pathetic lights in my 2008. I'd like to replace the headlights, and fogs with HID. Has anyone achieved decent lighting in this manner in the 08+?

Thanks, Al.

Purchased the following, looking forward to fitting them and being able to drive the Pathfinder around at night on the Colorado backroads.

6k is going to be more blue then it is white. i dont know what color you were looking get out of them though. Ive been using the DDM hi/low kit since august without a problem. I have 5k which is white. no blue at all. Also have H11 HID fogs in 3k which is yellow. Have absolutely no complaints with there product. when you install the HID's you will have to aim your lights down some otherwise you will be blinding everyone on the road.

It says 6K on your signature? Did you change them? Thanks for the info.

Got any pictures of where you mounted the ballasts for both headlights and foglights?

Mounting the ballasts for the headlights was easy. So many places. Take a look under there and you will see. Now the ballasts for the fogs I had to get creative. Ill try and get some pics once the snow clears up.

So any update to this on how the HID install went? How is the color output? How is the hi/low feature? I have yet to buy a hi/low featured set as my vehicle prior had a high and low bulb. Does it work well?

sometimes the color you see on pics is a little bit more blue them what they actually look. 5k is more of a crystal white color, 6k is white w some blue in them, and 8k is just blue. 4300k is a white w/ a combination of the OEM yellowish color. Another thing if your hi/low beam is not working properly you have to switch the blue and white wires. I do this for a living so I have some experience on this.

Outcome is still in the box, as I've been to busy with 6 mo old kid, or fishing... I'll get to it soon, and I promise I'll update. Al.

Finally decided to try an HID setup as well. Went with the slim ballast hi/low 34w 5k from ddmtuning.com Installed them tonight and they're a huge difference from the oem lights. The pattern isn't very good...a testament to how bad the OEM reflectors are. But it's still a big improvement. I'm going to have to play with the aiming because they're bright and will probably annoy others at the current setting. I just hope lowering them doesn't take away too much from the improvement.

My only reservation with these HID kits was reliability. I drive into a lot of remote areas and having inoperable lights is a big problem. I'm putting my old 9007 bulbs in the glovebox so worst case I can swap these out on the road if I have problems.

I'm going to consider some type of improvement to the foglights as well. I just need to figure out how to run the fogs without the headlights. If the fogs are bright enough it would be more effective to turn the headlights out when it's really foggy or snowy.
