2005 Pathfinder Oil pressure

Postby w3hog » Mon Mar 21, 2011 1:00 pm

Just got this PF, The oil pressure is good while moving, but when idling or stopped at a light it dips down, still in acceptable range but low. Is this normal or is it the swith? It jumps right back up as soon as I hit the gas.

Thanx,

DAN

I have the same problem. The best thing to do is get the pressure checked. I had it done at a guys shop down the street from my house. He checked it, and it met the minimum of 14PSI at idle, and 43PSI at 2000RPM.

Since my pressure is good, it points to a bad sending unit. The 2005 has a non-dummy version of the gauge with 3 pins instead of just 1 pin on 2006+. If you go ahead and replace the sender, make sure you buy the right one.

Courtesy Nissan carries it for $53.

Here is the thread I discussed my issues at:

I had my sender on my 05 replaced by the dealer, it does the same thing. Its not a huge worry unless it dips below the min. mark. At least that's what the dealer says.

Did anyone have any luck with cleaning and replacing the old one?

wait, is the gauge even supposed to be moving? Mine goes high but still within normal range when I press the gas and low (still, safe range) when idle. Isn't this normal?

depends on the year. 2007+ have dummy gauges that shouldn't move, 2005-2006 have real gauges that move with the pressure.

The 2005 I just bought does this too. It doesn't start swinging wildly until it is warmed up.

It was a bit surprising when I first noticed it dropping to almost nothing at idle.

same for me, it was stuck on low then I got a new one and now when warming up its in the middle. once warmed up idling it goes down but when I hit gas goes back to normal.

Disallow told me not to worry ! 8)

I wonder if you guys switched to a 40 weight oil it would make a difference? I am currently running M1 0w40 and my R51 4.0 V6 has never run smoother.

Sometimes the seals start leaking behind the rear timing cover, which causes the oil pressure to drop. It's a pretty big job, if that's what it is.
