New to me 08 PF

Postby i-man » Sun Mar 27, 2011 1:26 pm

Just picked up a 08 PF. Did not get the 4wd, as I do not need it. This thing is going to be a road warrior, I travel a lot for work. I will also be using it to tow 2 sport bikes, or dirt bikes, from time to time. It currently has 84000 miles on it. Are there any issues I should be addressing or looking for? Thanks for any, and all input.

I'm still new to the club as well, but from what I read the biggest problem will be the transmission cooler that is built into the radiator. It fails and starts putting coolant into the transmission lines and it will end up killing your tranny. So everyone has recommended doing a cooler mod, but unhooking from the radiator cooler and putting in a stand alone cooler. Which engine did you buy?

Nice. I have the 5.6, but still have a certified pre-owned warranty and really don't want to screw that up if I do the tranny cooling mod.

Anyone know where the coolant leaks from and if it is from improper maintenance or just build quality.

From what I have read, it is the build quality of the radiator.
They don't leak on the outside, for this particular issue. Instead, the section at thebottom of the radiator that the tranny fluid runs through for quicker warming fails and allows coolant into the tranny fluid.

Yeah, but if your luck is like mine, it would fail right after the warranty ran out.
