Error code P0448 - suggestions?

Postby webmastir » Mon Apr 18, 2011 8:05 pm

So, my wife had the CEL (SES) come on today. I went and got the code(s) read, and both said P0448:

1/2: Emissions Control Systems Vent Circuit
2/2: EVAP Emission Control System Vent Circuit Short

Anyone have any tips as to where to go from here?

I do have a recall waiting (haven't brought in yet) for: Engine Control module relay.

It doesn't sound like that has shit to do w/ my current predicament. I can't afford to drop a nut ton of money into this either atm :(
(also, i tried to search, but didn't come up with anything really)

EDIT: after reading this, apparently the ECM does have a LITTLE to do with the whole process: (http://www.helpforcars.net/obd_codes/p0448_nissan.html)

get the recall done first, though you are probably correct that it doesn't have anything to do with your code
otherwise: 2nd result after "googling": P0448 R51:

(looks like a federal production! )
hope this helps,

it's your vent control valve.
you may also need an auxilary filter kit installed if your vehicle didn't come with one.
You may also want to drop your canister and check to see if its packed with mud (inside).
Best case, you can clean it out and be ok
worst; VCV, cannister and filter kit (pain to insall)
PM me if you need help

(is this aka Fuel Tank Vent Valve)?

it's over $100 if i remember right. You also have to drill a couple holes in your frame and coat it with bitumen wax (also $$). If it were me, i'd drop the canister and valve (1 bolt, few hoses, one electrical connector) and check for mud debris first. There is an updated VCV. It's totally different from the old ones. If you bring it in, they can tell you which (or post a pic). If there's mud in the valve and/or cannister - replace.
