Roof Rack Removed

Postby forgottenzone » Mon Jun 13, 2011 8:36 pm

I wanted to remove my roof rack for a while now. didnot like the way it looked. I like the clean look and have company truck and pickups if i need to carry anything large, But i have been reading that the roof rack is bolted from inside the pathfinder. so i have been trying to figure out in my head how to remove it without taking off the Head liner. So i wanted to see what i can do from the top of the roof. I took one plastic off from the end of the roof rack and to my supprise it was bolted from the top?
3 bolts at each end and 2 bolts in the middle = 8 bolts on each side.
bolts are 6m x 1.25 i removed it all. First I tried to install new bolts with rubber washer, it worked good as a water seal but it was sticking out to much. then i found the plastic rivets. for car interiors like for door panels etc. it was flat on the top. and the plastic teeth hold them in place, they are black so its almost invisable since my pathy is black. I filled the wholes with clear sylicone and pressed in while turning the plastic rivets in place , like you would screw in the bolts. i have had them on for a month now and have had alot of spring rain and no leaks., Here are some pics.
I had few people ask me is that a new pathfinder. something looks different on it. I like the look.

Def looks different...I think the lack of step bars makes it quite different as well. I just took my bars off due to wind noise with the moonroof open...but not sure I'm ready to lose them completely. Thanks for the pics.

I think it gives it less of a truck look and does make the roof sleeker. I personally like the truck look of the Path so this mod isn't for me, but glad you found something that you like.

I think it looks different, if it sat a bit lower I think it would look a bit better!

do you have the cross bars? and if so would you be willing to sell?

Sorry, guys. I know you like the look, but that PF now looks like an everyday minivan. No offense intended, but its character is gone.

I took mine off for plans of making a one piece basket that bolted to the exsiting holes, but it never happened...

looks bald...

Kind of like the look, though. It will be interesting in the winter and spring again after the metal has shrunk and stretched to see how the seals hold up.

Has it done anything on noise or MPG?
