Unbelievable dealer prices

Postby schmo9 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 5:38 am

Just had to replace the front brake discs, pads and passenger side track rod end on my 2005 Pathfinder.

The dealers part prices are as follows:

Front Brake Disc £90 each
Track rod end £125
Brake pads £55
Total £360....parts alone!!!!!

I called my local TMS motor store and the equivalent parts cost as follows:

Front Brake Disc £45 each
Track rod end £25
Brake pads £38
Total £153 :D

I done the job myself and no doubt saved another fortune on labour costs!!!

Highway men still exist eh!!!!

Pretty soon the local parts shop will be run out and you'll have to go to the dealership and pay those hefty prices.

Why do you say that? I disagree. Autopart stores are becoming more and more useful as many people don't want to fall victim to dealer costs. I used to work at one, and the store I worked at made plenty of money.

These Autopart stores are springing up everywhere in my area and they provide a very very good service! Ive even seen the dealers in my area use this particular branch.

I always buy from my local auto parts store (Napa, O'Reilly's, Advance). I only buy from the stealer if I cannot find the part elsewhere. I can usually find parts for my pathfinder at the local parts store. Now finding parts for my Hyundai is another story...

I work in the industry and can tell you that dealerships are getting very competetive in the last year or so. Just becarful when buying from discount part suppliers, some of their parts are straight junk. Napa is a safe bet;)

I would just make sure their warranty covers what I want and I go from there. Napa I do agree usually has good parts, but I've had issues there, just like other stores. I have alot of parts with lifetime warranty from Auto Zone as I worked there and got an employee discount for my jeep and I can't complain about the parts I have.
