pathfinder losses power when i hit a puddle

Postby riverwindflutes » Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:15 pm

3 times now my 1995 pathfinder feels like it's going to stall when i hit a puddle, and it also losses power when i hit the gas, seems like its ok now that its dried out, now i'm afraid to drive it in the rain, my mechanic say it coud be the mass airflow sensor, any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
Don

Just an idea, but inspect the igniton coil. If there is a crack or anything in the case it will go cause a misfire when it gets wet. I had a wv that that happened to.

I had the same problem.

Replace your distributor cap and/or rotor.

In the 94 model the O2 sensor is half way down the exhaust and is exposed to conditions such as puddles etc.
When I had a problem with acceleration it turned out to be the O2 sensor. Have a look underneath along the exhaust to see if it's the same in your 95 and if so check the wires.

It looks like a bolt that screws into the exhaust pipe with wires running to the engine bay.. common problem with 94s

Those are usually symptoms of a secondary ignition issue: distributor cap, ignition wires or coil housing. Try spraying water on it with a spray bottle (with the engine running, of course) and look for sparks arcing.
