Hey dawgn,

I'll be in Tucker next week for work. Only one day though... Looks to be an hour or so from your neck of the woods...

I don't think the return line will 'suck' the fluid out of a container. A fluid exchanger uses a bladder system; as the old fluid enter the tank in the exchanger, it pushes against the bladder and forces the new fluid into the return line. This is why I suggested plugging off the return line and adding the new fluid via the dipstick tube. This method is the same that Ford suggests on their Focus and some other vehicles. On another note, picked up some Valvoline Maxlife ATF from Advance Auto parts for $17.99/gallon. Love the stuff! ;)

Visiting my company's fan clutch vendor. After that, driving to Nashville to visit the Cummins call center, and then hopefully make it home on Friday.

I've been to a tonne of US cities. But I've never actually been there, if you know what I mean. Chicago especially, probably been there, or to the suburbs about 25 times in the last 5 years. Still have never managed to catch a Blackhawks game...

Well if its not too far, maybe we could meet in a less sketchy area for a beer.

We can do the trans fluid change in the parking lot... ;)

So I decided to do a drain and fill on my 06 today...been putting it off way too long..105,745 miles on original ATF.

Went with the Valvoline MaxLife ATF..drained out just under 4 quarts and replaced same. Drove around the neighborhood nice and easy and then out on the main road. I want to say it shifts more smoothly, but I rarely drive the car, but it does shift smooth.

Old fluid was a reddish brown, probably more brown than red of course, but it wasnt that dark. Going to try and put some of the old, some of the new and some thats in the car about a few miles on a white rag and take a picture for comparison.

Cool beans.

Did you get a new crush washer for the drain bolt.

I did, but was an idiot and used during my first drain and fill, so I reused the new one on the subsequent drain and fills I did.

Terry

I did use a new copper crush washer. Last year I changed the ATF in my daughters Xterra and bought the fluid there. The lady threw in a pack of those washers.

but with all the cars I have had and changed the oil, I dont think I have ever had one leak from the drain bolt.

They are not really there to prevent leaks. They take the torque stress off of the threads in your (rather expensive) oil pan. They are supposed to be single use.

The one I got was a copper crush washer that actally visually crushed when used. Usually I gey an aluminum one, they don't visibly crush. I've reused both varieties without ill effect.

You can find OEM type copper washers on Ebay sold in bags of 10, 30, 50 and 100 for a lot cheaper than what the dealer charges. I think I got a bag of 30 for around $17 w/ free shipping last time. They work on both the AT pan and oil pan drain plugs on a large number of Nissans.

going to try and post a photo of ATF fluid changed this weekend in the Path. Had 105k on original fluid. Did a drain and fill.

The fluid on the far left is in the Path now..has about 50 miles on it. The fluid in the middle is new Valvoline Maxlife and the fluid on the far right is what came out. After another drain and fill or two, should be back to reddish color.
