Anyone Else Get an Intermittent Rattle Behind Dashboard?

Postby Birdbath8 » Sun Apr 27, 2008 2:11 pm

Just a quick question. I have an 08 SE-V8. Has anyone experienced a metallic rattle just behind the driver side dashboard that only occurs intermittently? It is usually at slower speeds on side streets when it happens. I've had it in to the dealer twice now and each time they say they can't hear anything. Typical.

Thanks.

Nope. But, I have an '06. The only rattle I've heard in mine comes from the rear hatch, particularly when I'm driving through my 'hood with the hatch up (don't ask). I also occasionally hear it when it's closed. I haven't mentioned it to my dealer, for the very reasons you stated. It's just not worth the bother. :|

I used to get one that seemed to come from the defrost vents in the dash. Only happened when it was cold, would stop after 10 minutes or so. Hasn't happened in a while. Right now the only rattling I have is in the driver side door. 08 le v8.

I used to have a metallic rattle in my dash, it sounded almost like it was coming from behind the Bose head unit. I had heard theories that it was an AC line tapping against the firewall, but nothing was ever confirmed. It was the hardest thing to duplicate, and every time I took it to Nissan I could not duplicate it.

It occassionaly came and went, and eventually went away after about 6 months and haven't heard it since.

08, not a peep, even after a front bumper replacement. Surprising.

When I was researching the 05+ Pathfinders, I saw mention of rattles in the dash. Ours is quiet, though.

Yes, I have that rattle... but like someone else posted, mine only seems to happen when it is cold and the vechicle is warming up.

no rattles, but i think the weather stripping for the top of the rear hatch needs to be replaced as some water is coming in after a car wash -or- moderate to hard rain storm. not too pleased about it.

Yep, I've got the same leak on my '06 LE. My dealer said he had replaced the gasket on a few other PF's. I'll get it swapped out at my next oil change in a month or so.

I have a high pitched squeek when hitting just the right bumps ... noticed it on an old logging road some friends live down ....dont hear it on the street unless its just the right bump ... I figure there is no way I will ever find it , and no way a dealer will find it ... someday Ill look into it ...

Could be your hood latch needing lithium grease, could be a squeaky fuel pump (there's a TSB out for that).

Same here. I only had it during the winter when the vehicle was heating up. Haven't heard it in a while however.

I have one that I get when I change from A/C to defrost. Kind of a multi thunk/rattle...only does it for a second then it stops...Going to ask the dealer about it this week when I call about some other stuff.

I had a chance to do about a 200 km offroad gravel run this past weekend. No dash rattles but after about 50 kms into some rough gravel roads I got a front end chirp that sounded like suspension. After about 100 kms into the drive the squeak went away, so maybe just the front springs settling in.
