2002 SE 4x4- My new car

Postby 2002redpathfinder » Mon Jul 29, 2013 9:49 am

Hi all, I just bought a 2002 SE 4x4 with just 104,000 miles. It was a single owner car and in immaculate condition. I do not have any of the prior service records and would like to know what Nissan and you all recommend maintenance wise. I know spark plugs need to be done at 105k but what about transmission, transfer case, diffs etc... Thanks for you help in advance!

Stick with the original type NGK laser platinum spark plugs. They are a little pricey, but the best option for your engine. I believe Nissan recommends an oil change and tire rotation at the 105,000 mile service; they recommend rotation at every 3750 miles, which is a bit of overkill; I rotate mine every 7500 mi.
Air and fuel filters should be changed every 30000 miles. I recommend a drain and fill of the automatic transmission fluid every 30000 miles, as well, if applies. Do not use Dexron III/Mercon ATF when servicing. Use Nissan Type "D" ATF or an aftermarket ATF "recommended" for Dexron II applications. I highly recommend Valvoline Maxlife ATF or Castrol Multi-import ATF. I usually drain and fill the transfer case and diffs every 60,000 miles. I usually use Mobil 1 synthetic 75W90 or Walmart full-synthetic 75W90 gear oil for the diffs. IIRC, Nissan recommends the first coolant service at 60000 miles and every 30000 miles thereafter. I replace oil and filter at every 7500 miles using synthetic 5W30 and a genuine Nissan oil filter (I use Purolator Pure-One in a pinch). Oil brand is a matter of preference; I use Walmart's Syntech Full Synthetic, which is made by Royal Shell, the makers of Rotella.
