NewOwner: Dealer Rad/Tranny Fix Question

Hi,
I posted this but it doesn't show, so if it's a repeat, sorry.

I just got an '05 today. It has 98K miles. The owner said the trans was replaced by the dealer at about 55K because of the radiator leak. When the dealer fixes that issue is it fixed for good or should I bypass that trans cooler as soon as possible anyways?

It depends on when it was replaced. If it got the updated radiator, you will be fine, but if you got the old radiator prior to them updating it, you could still have a problem. The problem is that we are not exactly sure how to tell the "updated" radiators from the older ones. One thing we do know is that if the part number on the top of the tank is 21460-EA215 or 21460-EA265, you have the old style radiator.

The only thing it tells is that you don't have the early part number which was known for failures, but failures have occurred on later part numbered rads, so it's no guarantee that you have an updated radiator or not. What is interesting is that the replacement radiator should be a 21460-9CA2E, whereas the later 21460-ZL11A (later superceded by 21460-9CA0E) is listed in the catalog for 02/2009-and-later models. From what has been posted, the cooler lines are in different locations on the later models (I have not verified this at this time; it's only what I heard).

21460-9BA0E the updated radiator for a 2.5L; 21460-9CA0E is the updated radiator for the 4.0L V6 & 5.6L V8. Is yours a Diesel?

lol, no not a diesel. Thanks for the info.

I bypassed it today. Couldn't stand the stress of thinking my new pathfinder was going to lose it's tranny at any time.

I used the 3/16" barbed hose adapter as it looked like it would flow more and two 15-16mm fuel injection clamps.
