Ring and Pinion gear change quest

Postby akley88 » Thu Nov 14, 2013 9:06 am

So i have been on a quest for more power, and to some extent a correct speedometer reading. so i have been looking to get new gears. ive been looking for gears between 4.11 and 4.56, cause im planning on larger tires then i have now.

4x4parts has 4.111 gears for the 98+ frontier R180a, not sure if these will work

and i have contacted Rugged Rocks. new gears is something that they have looked into and still are but they dont know of anyone that makes gears.
they did say that they have heard of someone swapping the diff from another nissan with r200 and it was a direct bolt on.

so im still trying to figure out what would be the best method to change out the gears. i appreciate any thoughts.

How about for the rear? Which I believe is the R200. Do you know your current ratio?

R180A is the front.

R200 is for the rear.

I believe the R200A is for the front on previous gen Pathfinders.

I use this chart for reference.

There are many R&P apps for the R180A(front) and R200A(front) but not seen much on the R200 (rear). Our handicap seems to always be the rear. Because the same goes for us V8 guys with the R230, no support aside from the 3.36. BUT the M205 (V8 Front) has many options.

Also, the R2xx series was also used in the Z32 (300ZX), but they have varying attributes that may or may not require modification for your R51 application. For example, the Q45/Z32TT use the R230, same "model" that's in the V8 Pathfinder, BUT, there are minor differences. The flange hole count is 5 and not 6, and is smaller diameter. The Pathy diff/guts doesn't fit the Z's pumpkin, the ABS/speed sensors are in a different configuration, to name a few.

the rear is becoming the issue with trying to find something that will match what i want in the front. the gears right now i have are 3.357 and with the 295/75 im a little bogged down. i figured this will take some work to figure out a solution. of course i could always do a sas and then gears wouldnt be an issue with the right axles. but thats stuff of dreams right now

Old thread but I thought I'd add this here. Rugged Rocks did release a r&p set for the rear r200. It's 4.083 ratio but it's $700+. Any ideas where they sourced it. I've read there are some similarities between the r51 r200 and other Nissan models that use the r200 but the pinion and carrier are unique to the r51.

Since they now have measurements to do ARB locker in the stock Rear R200 means its probably a front Nissan Patrol R200A i believe
