Traded in '08 for '13 today!

Postby Mr Mayor » Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:25 pm

Yup, took the plunge.. 2013 SL bright silver with all whistles except DVD headrest thingy.. Traded in my wonderful 2008 with 125K of near perfection for the new one. (Most expensive repair was blower motor this week-dangit! $300).

(OH just found out my cousin Nick picked up an S model today too, funny)

I will say that I was dead-set against this new model in the beginning. Blasting it for CVT, unibody, and a few other things...but ya know what... It grew on me since being in the co-workers Infiniti model a few times. I broke a few of my own rules too:
Never a new model/first year purchase, always wait.....NADA.
Leather. Uhg! (Got it)
Towing unibody. (Enclosed ATV trailer, 7 x 14?)

So I went for it. Got a decent trade on it (considering mileage) and not a bad deal.. surely after 4 hrs I think I did fine. COuld I have gotten more, sure if I hit a highway store, but I hit my own towns dealer... thought it made sense.

A few things went with the old truck that I was too lazy to remove, or didnt fit this one:
Front tow hitch, rear airbags, Stillen air intake system w/ K&N (dammit!)..

Ohwell!

Wish me well, I'll be flying through the mileage in no time. (Late purchase 08 = 125k at trade in)

Cheers!!

I, for one would like to know that when towing that trailer, how much RPM slop is there, if any (compared with our 5sp AT)

Like to hear the overall improved mileage gained with this power train/ body setup. Should be much improved, from what is touted.

Thanks,

I'll call this section: Me and my big mouth.... Feel free to ask any questions ya want....

I can tell you right now mileage is better than I expected already.
My g/f lives by my work.. ~40 miles away. Driving at my normal pace my '08 stuck at 16.7 almost always. Most of it highway and frankly, I admit to a heavy foot. Driving '13 today, it averaged out to about 21.2 so far. (At one point I witnessed 28.8 on level ground when I first reset the mpg toy  ) I'm imagining it'll drop slightly to 20 once I factor in all the local driving and I did 150 miles this weekend already).

Towing: Welp, they changed the connector, so I haven't tested that yet. My '08 measured 20.5" to the bottom of the hitch WITH airbags pumped to 13 psi, and I always left it there until I towed, where I'd raise it to 20),
The '13 measured only 16.0" to the bottom of the hitch (no airbags), so I also need to grab my older tow hitch, flip it, and install a new 2" ball. So a few things have changed already. Also, my enclosed trailer is 1400lbs empty, single axle and enclosed 18" V-nose. I tow a big 750 ATV around, another 850lbs plus maybe 150lbs in gear and gas. I'll report once it's done, likely before Jan 1 I hope....

First impressions of it, it really is smoother, and yes, a little car like I admit, (unibody, independent susp etc, I know) you don't sit up as high but your not down in the weeds either. I was able to barely squeeze a new storm door in it today sitting on top of the steering wheel, last week when I got the new front door in the '08, it was exactly the same thing, pushed seats forward and was able to shut the rear hatch. (power closing AND latching as opposed to just latching before (nice!)... some times it feels bigger, and others its smaller. Can't explain it. Heated seats are nice, my first vehicle with leather ever... rear passengers get heat too (ONLY the outside rear passengers, not the middle one, probably due to potential for car seats there I guess? ). It's 10 times easier to climb in the third row. Both rear and 3rd row passengers gain substantial room too. No more knobs to kick back there, nice flush buttons up out of the kicking 11 yr olds way. Rear hatch is power, nice, no more rear opening window (or *I* haven't found it yet). Heated outside mirrors. (Hallelujah!) Better vision, bad blind-spots with huge ugly rear headrests (I yanked 'em and stuck 'em in the house already. A waste.) Nice big tub under the rear old tool/tire area, now carpeted, plenty of room for my 3 collapsible fishing poles if it weren't for that Bose air chamber thing..(13 speaker stereo rocks, WOW! I strongly encourage blues and rock fans to find Chris Duarte's song AMY LEE or IN THE NEWS TODAY as your test! A guitar GOD!) and maybe some tackle, but not *MY* tackle, but hey, I take the kitchen sink.

Ok, can't think of anything else right now, but if you think of anything, ask![/i]

Nice looking SL.

I'm hoping that someone comes out with airbags for the 13's soon...mine could really use 'em. Even with a full load of passengers, she gets pretty low in the rear end. Auto-load levelling would have been a good feature for Nissan to include.

MOTHERFATHER!!!!!!

Ya know I got rear ended tonight in traffic? Not even the girl behind me, it was the guy behind her....

Thankfully its cosmetic, not even a repaint of the bumper will be needed at all, just the tow receiver is walloped, and the black trim underneath, and some light scratches on the chrome under-trim.
Possible bad news is the actual driver at fault has ONLY liability on his hooptie..see how that plays out. I almost got burned once before...

I KNEW I should have left the trailer hitch and ball on! Grr!

Thankfully, and most importantly, no one was hurt...except my feelings...

Make sure it gets checked out properly. Even getting hit in the hitch could cause the frame to be damaged.

You have the same Rig I have except I picked up the Dark Slate to replace a 05 Murano. Sorry about the slight bender you had and good thing it was minor. Just added Air Horns to my Pathy using plastic cable ties to secure components behind the grill. Looking forward to seeing and sharing some good mods here. Love the truck but wish it had projector HID's and signal side mirrors. Obviously not deal breakers as I jumped on this first year version which I never do. Next up is installing a Kenmore Amp and single Sub box to replace the wimpy Bose Sub. Bass is wonderful in the fronts but I want the tightness in the back at medium volumes. Question, has anyone located all 13 speakers? I counted 12 and can not come up with the last one unless they consider the two small ones in the Bose sub. That would make 13.

Would like to see a pic of the horns, I may get Twin Hella's again. One thing I'll say is, you really can't hear the damn horn unless its dead silent on the truck. (Maybe I'm going deaf quicker than I thought... )

So here is Me and my big mouth Pt 2 . (This is the gripe/suggestion list, but it's not bad)

1: I can turn the REAR heat ON, but can't turn it OFF ? In the '08 I toggled it back n forth all the time for my son. Now HE has to turn it off? Definitely an oops on Nissan, or am I missing something so obvious that I'm missing it? Here's what I mean, let's say you have a couple rug rats as passengers, and you want to warm them up.... you pop the REAR heat button...few minutes later they are roasting, so now you need to shut it off....and can't????

2: Must they turn on my A/C every :censored: time I turn on the defrost? I really don't want it on.. I know it's on as a dehumidifier, but I DON'T WANT THAT. I'm not an idiot, I can work an HVAC system thanks Nissan.

3: There is no more 3

4: Ipod interface is good, but not great. It's kind of a pain...consider that we have this beautiful round button with 4 arrows on it, and an Enter button,(like an iPod?!) and now consider why the hell they didn't use it like that? Why? I do like the title and artist listed though.

5: Sunroof is markedly smaller, likely to accommodate the big sky-roof in the back.... Who needs this sky-roof? If it's sunny enough to "open the cover" to it, it's sunny enough to warm the car more. regardless of the 'privacy glass' in place.. I'd MUCH rather have a bigger sunroof like my 08 had, maybe even bigger. Just my opinion here.

6: I noted that sometimes when I raise the fan speed up or down, or change the mode, like feet, or face, it doesn't always bring up the display... so I have no idea what fan speed or mode I chose. I note this ONLY happens when I use XM radio (which I won't renew anyway)... maybe a software issue perhaps, but wow is it irritating. Anyway seeing this?

7: I thought the less aggressive tires would transmit less noise into the cabin, but to me, it doesn't seem it. I'll be giving the wheel-wells some undercoat in the Spring to see if it helps, at least when it rains.... years ago when I worked for Saturn we had these NVH (noise vehicle harshness) issues and undercoat (even in a spray can) worked wonders.. I'm hoping the same will ring true here as well. Note that I drive on a decent portion of concrete highway during my 75 mile ride each work day... so that may be most of it..Pavement is better, true.

8: One USB port in my truck...and they stick it inside the center console? Why not replace one of the front cig lighters with another USB, hmm? And this leaves my iPod on ALL THE TIME? Do I want this? No. Dumb. Yet at least 4 cig lighter 12 volt ports all over the place... Nissan; really?

Now please note don't let my gripe list deter you from purchase, I'm an opinionated little a-hole from N-NJ and these things may never occur during your use..or you can overlook it, like I'm trying to do. (yeh, not really). Some of it may seem minor to you, and even me, but thought I should mention it out loud anyway...

Cheers!!!!

One more thing.... the phone interface..

Why can't I just "Call Julie Mobile"...it NEVER works?!

I have to listen to every single :censored: menu for each choice.

Hit the phone button on the steering wheel and let the frustration begin... It definitely cannot understand me. Now, for the record, I speak the queens English quite well. The occasional slang of "gonna"(going to) " gahead" "go ahead" but never do these make it into the phone dialing. "I don't got no freeakin Jerzey axcent, jeeez!"

Call... To make a call say any of the following commands... 10 seconds worth ad nauseum
Julie.. There is more than one entry, here; let me read the whole friggin thing to make every call you make at least 45 seconds long before it dials..
Oh wait, Julie has 3 entries, let me read you the whole fricking phone number knowing full well you wouldn't know these numbers if you were stuck in a snowy mountain cave....
Oh OK, so now that you've said YES, do you want to dial it? Ok here we go... Oh nevermind.... you're at your destination, get out and find her now...

ok, that's it.
