Transmission fluid level

Does anyone know how to check the automatic transmission fluid level. I really don't want to take it to the dealer just to get it checked out and the jiffy lube type places won't touch if it doesn't have a dipstick.

I have a 2006 Path..bought new from dealer..he told me the transmission was sealed and I couldnt check it.

There is a trans dipstick located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is held down by a 10mm bolt. Take the bolt off and check as normal.

Make sure you turn it around (turn it 180 degrees) when checking your fluid level. It will sink more in this position. Otherwise you will be hitting the bracket to which it is being secured by that 10mm bolt, causing insufficient insertion, which will give you a low reading on the dipstick.

Agree...good point and im sure I didnt think of that when I checked mine last time...will be sure to do that.

Just purchased an '05 Pathfinder before finding about this issue, funny thing is MSN auto's doesn't list it as a potential problem. I don't have much experience finding the transmission fluid dipstick. Can you guys point it out to me?

in your right hand upper picture, it is the little round black object in the left side middle (from up to down) in the picture
it is held in by a 6mm bolt with a 10mm head
instructions for checking the level are on pg MA-22 & MA-23 in the service manual
the service manual can be found in the 4th "sticky" down in the "2005+Pathfinder (R51)" forum

i'm thinking of getting the radiator replaced instead, I live in Calgary, the weather can dip to extremes on the same day due to chinooks, still doing my research though
