Turbo de-Soot

Postby Graham W » Thu Apr 11, 2019 5:08 am

When i was having a under the bonnet 'tidy up' and clean I had noticed the turbo feed pipe, the rubber just before was all oily, took the pipe off and it wasnt to bad inside.

I know, and have read about cleaning with seafoam, but its lke rocking horse poop here, so hadn't bothered.

But a local garage has been using a product called Revive to clean sooted diesel engines and sooty turbo's.

So after having some suspension work done yesterday, I convinced them to let me have some.

It has to be done from a stone cold engine, which is a struggle as we use the truck loads, but will attempt to review it with a gopro and let you all know what I think.

Well got the bottle of ‘revive’ out today, which is apparently like the sea foam additive, something we here in the UK struggle to get.

The bottle of fluid is 750ml which is marked in three segments,

After removing the air intake after the MAF, the engine is started and kept at
2500 rpm whilst A is added over 15 second blasts down the pipe.
Then after a short break and engine off 1800 rpm for B the same
And then finally after about 5 mins with engine off the final few ml, C at a tickover, engine off and replace the pipe, leave for about 5 mins and start,
pressing the peddle a few times.

In their online video masses of smoke came from this last part.
Yes I had white smoke but not plumes.

Finally to clear any last cleaning solution and spot the vehicle goes
for a 20 min drive.
I did notice pulling away from home on an incline to the main road I was pushing out some more smoke, again not loads but more than a foot down Diesel discharge.

Verdict- I wasn’t ‘amazing, WOW factored’ but notice even though I was driving to allow the turbo to keep going the fuel jumped from 25.9 to 29.5
But maybe a coincidence. There was no massive noticeable turbo pull.

Will report back in a few days if the truck feels smoother on normal daily
runs and if my gf notices a difference.

Now its all settled i think for the price it has done some good. I dont see the same amount of diesel acceleration soot from zorst, and pulling away is smoother.

I still fancy having it remapped, as i find 1st and second still all rev and no go lol, some more torque in those gears would be nice.

Not talking one of those plug in box's but a proper remap.
