Vibration and clunking sound

Postby carolan4 » Mon Jan 25, 2016 9:58 am

I have a 2006 LE 4X4 with about 125K. I am having 2 issues that may or may not be related.

1st - Bad Vibrations. I feel these vibrations at all speeds, but when I get over 50 they become severe. I can't tell if its coming from the front end or the rear. It's all over and driving me crazy.

2nd - Clunking. When in 4X4 there is some binding and clunking when turning the wheel. It seems to do it more on the left side. I replaced the CV axle on the left side, but the problem is still there. I had to use the 4X4 yesterday for a long distance on the snow roads in NC. Going at a slow speed with my window down I could here a clicking noise coming from the front end.

If someone could give me some advice on how to diagnose my problems, that would be great.

Thanks,

Start with checking your U-joints on the front and rear drive shafts; it's a very common problem and I experienced the same thing on my 2006 LE and it was due to the front driveshaft U-joints.

Clunking in the front "could" be the front sway bar mount bushings. The original ones had the split directly between the bar and the chassis and the sway bar would end up pushing through the split and knock against the crossmember. Nissan updated the bushings and relocated the split to prevent this from happening; the bushings are cheap from Nissan and there is a TSB on the issue. I would also check the ball joints and tie rods.

Thanks for the feed back. I've checked the shafts before, the front had a little play in it, 1\4 inc rotate back and forth, the rear had no play and was very stiff.

I'll check the other stuff later.

vibration

Postby jedizz1 » Thu Jun 16, 2016 1:56 am

Hi Guys and Gals new to the forum. I have a pathy 06 petrol. The problem is a vibration through the wagon, I have had the u joints replaced and the drive shaft rebalanced and the vibration seems more severe. I have a good mechanic and he thought it might be the rear diff but after some experiments and time he said it is coming from the out shaft of the gear box. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm signing in on this as well. I hear mine getting click click click, which is starting to become a clunk clunk clunk when I am stopping. I have the vibration at speeds as well. I only have 104,000 miles on it and it's a 2005.
I took it in and had the tires rebalanced and rotated and it's still there.

The output shaft has a u-joint on it. Did they replace it?
