PNW Newbie with problems.....

Hey from Seattle--
This is an awesome board. OK, so I've been lurking for a while......so, here I am.
And....here's a problem I've been having lately.

1995 Nissan Pathfinder, SE, 4dr, 5spd manual, 3.0L V6, 4x4

Last summer she just wouldn't start a few times. Totally random. So, since then, I've had the alternator, battery, starter and most relays replaced. That seems to have worked during the fall/winter/spring, but again now that the weather is getting warm it's doing it again. Try turning the key and nothing. Radio, etc. work but just won't start. Had to jump start it a few days ago. Another time I had to charge the battery. Sad.....

Thinking some sort of slow electrical drain caused by the hot temperatures? Bad cell in the battery?
I love my Path and would hate to sell it but it needs to be reliable for my family.
THANK YOU for any suggestions!

Have you tried testing the batteries ability to hold a charge?

hey BC,

My suggestion would be to go to your nearest parts specialist (or search for one on my search engine) and order yourself a battery isolator and put that in, cut the ability for anything to drain the battery, if that doesn't work then the battery is definitely stuffed (ie if it's still flat).
In the interim try taking off the negative terminal to the battery overnight. Unfortunately you'll have to re-set your radio each morning but it's a good way to check things out.

Oh yeah, and the previous suggestion of getting the battery checked would be a good thing.

Alternatively to the above you can book in to an Auto Electrician and have them test everything for you and try to find the drain.

I'd suggest the battery isolator would be the cheapest option, you could re-wire the radio unit so that it gets its own feed of power separately to the wiring harness so that when you isolate the battery it doesn't get wiped each time.

Unfortunately not having any experience with that model of Pathy I can't really suggest a lot more, but an Auto Electrician might be able to suggest some more without charging a fortune.

Oh yeah, do you have an alarm fitted? It could be draining the system through some sort of fault..

Good luck,
Simon
