The Nissan Path

compatible to say Valvoline for example, I was using mobile 5000 10 w 30 conventional just trying it instead of say Valvoline , how ever I saw this coupon from my dealer for a do it yourself oil change kit with filter and plug washer included for $23,99 5 qts of Nissans own oil .
my question who makes their oil , or is it as good as what's in Wal-Mart stores? have a 2003 pathfinder 4 wheel dr V6 97000 miles on it.

Maybe someone will know. If I had to guess, I'd say Castrol given they make some other Nissan fluids. I wouldn't sweat it either way...as long as it meets the specs required (which i'm sure it does), it will be fine.

Doesn't seem like that great of a deal though. Autozone has a $17 special currently for 5qt jug of conventional Mobil 5000 and a filter.

I checked out the AutoZone specials and they are now for synthetic oils ,
however Wal-Mart sells mobile 5000 for a straight $12.88 and Nissan has a 20% coupon off on filters so at $8.53-20% =$6.83 not to bad.

If you have a NAPA nearby, their Gold filters are high quality WIX and usually sub $6.00. I run them at 10k mile intervals on synthetic and oil sampling always comes back with excellent results.

Back in the '90s, Nissan oil was made by Amoco. Not sure who's making it now. Castrol could be a possibility. Pennzoil would be another, as they do use them for their LSD oil under warranty. I'd be surprised if many dealers actually use Nissan oil as most of them probably buy it in bulk form. As long as the oil is the proper viscosity and API certified, it should work just fine no matter what the brand.

I just went to Nissan for a oil change kit that they introduced with a coupon and the parts guy said [ we don't do these kits any more you can use any good oil ] you are 100% Right so thank you
