The Nissan Path

So I have only had my 2000 Pathfinder SE for a few weeks now and figured out my gas mileage. My previous car was an '07 Mazda 3, so of course I averaged about 30-32mpgs. I knew the Path would be worse and thought maybe about 20mpg. I only got 13.3mpg! Does anyone else out there get such terrible mileage? I mean, it's only a V-6 engine! I guess in 2000, we had not yet begun really focusing on gas mileage as much as we do now. Still feel like that sucks though! Hoping winter will be a little better since I won't be using the A/C as much!

My 2007 gets about 14 in the city, 22 highway... Are you doing mostly city driving? If so, do you have a bit of a heavy foot? I know that If I'm really punching it alot in town I can dip down into the 11 mpg range...

I haven't noticed any difference between using the A/C or not using it. Since it is on pretty much 99.9% of the time, I just leave it on. I get between 13-15 in the city, and between 17-20 on the highway. On average. My daily commute involves slow commutes, traffic jams (lots of wasted gas) & freeways. Congestion, altitude, temperature, etc.-there are a ton of variables that come into play, but it will most certainly not match a car in terms of mpg.

Thanks guys! Yeah I drive mine really easily, hoping to save a bit of gas. Checked the air filter and it's still clean. Next I'm going to check my air pressure in the tires just to be sure. Other than that, I guess it just is what it is!

2005 Pathfinder, I average 18.5-19.5 MPG the entire tank. I don't pay to much attention to the MPG calculator on the truck. Sadly I drive it like I stole it, full throttle and crazy to and from work everyday. Yet, I still average those numbers. On a long trip with cruise I have gotten 21.6 before. Like everything, I have an app on my phone to keep track of it.

Hey Jet, I have an app also on my phone that I use. Lot's of helpful statistics about gas mileage, prices, etc. Keep on drivin' like ya stole it! haha

I probably drive worse than anyone on the forum and I consistently get around 16 in the city and usually around 19.5 on the interstate. I've found that my MPG is almost directly related to whose gas I buy. Mid-grade gas from Shell seems to help things run a bit smoother.

Jet, what app do you use? I was bored and found the Murphy USA (Wal-Mart) app, but it's pretty generic. It'd be cool to find one with more abilities.

I have owned my 2003 Pathy SE P/4WD for about 1 month and here are my mpg's: 14.47, 13.65, 13.00, 16.87 (road trip and added fuel injection cleaner), 13.41.
I am depressed the mpg is so bad for the pathy. Maybe something is wrong with my fuel injectors?

Actually yes there is a way to boast mpg buy a k&n air filter, change or soak your plugs in break cleaner for about 30 mins then let dry, also throw some sea foam into your gas tank (autozone) this will clean out all the build up in your injectors.. You can also apply sea foam into your vacuum line and your throttle body to achieve more power and mpg. I was getting about 15 now I'm getting around 20 good luck =]

we found buying a higher grade fuel helped a little but of course it's a little more costly but it's also better for your vehicle so we think the added bit you get is worth it in the long run

Mine gets consistently above 17MPG's around town and 22MPG's on the freeway. I must say I have a VOLO Chip and I know that it has helped a lot; however, I also noticed that if I do 80Mph on the freeway it goes down to 20MPG's but if I keep it between 70 and 75 I will get my 22MPG. I wonder if the fuel mapping changes that much within that speed range to make such a difference. But it is what it is.

That's just the aerodynamics of the Pathfinder. Or any vehicle for that matter. The force of wind resistance is a squared fucntion of speed. Meaning that the force of wind resistance on a vehicle increases by a factor of 4 every time the speed is doubled.
