Hi,

I have a Nissan Pathfinder, and my ECM died. I was told something burned inside. How complicated is it to replace an ECM, what can I expect? If it burned could it burn again?

BTW its a LE Nissan Path 2012.

Regards,
JP

If the ECM failed on its own, it may still be covered under warranty. ECM's are covered under your long term emission warranty, which, depending on emission certification, is 7 years/70000 miles. Nissan ECM's are usually pretty solid, so figuring out if something caused it to "burn up" is important so you don't the same to the replacement ECM. Not sure if Nissan still programs the keys to the ECM still due to the immobilizer system (as opposed to programming them to the BCM), but it they do, you wil still need to bring the vehicle to the dealer after ECM replacement because it won't start until the keys are initialized to the new ECM.
