This harness is wrapped to the wire bundle for the 4wd switch. I have an SE with 4HI & 4LO, and VDC. I came across it when I was installing my new head unit. Anybody know what its for?

Do you have heated seats? Could possibly be that.

However I'm guessing it is the wire harness for the Hill descent control switch. When they built the vehicle they use the same wiring harness just don't install all the parts required for hill descent.

Don't think I have heated setas, it's just an SE and there is no switch. I guess it make sense, they don't want to stock another part number for the wire harness w/o the HDC bundle. But really, what's one more p/n in their inventory, right?

Whatever.

My SWAG:

Looking at the first picture, you can see the 4WD Shift Switch and the VCD switch. The wire bundle for the VDC looks completely separate from the 4WD Shift Switch bundle. That suggest separate sub-bundles for the switches above the gear shift.

Since the Hill Descent Control is to the passenger side of the VDC switch, the unused connector seems too short to be for the HDC.

As for heated seats, there are two switches for heated seats: driver and passenger. Unless the heated seat switches include a Y cable, it seems unlikely the unused connector is for heated seats.

My guess is the extra connector is to support the AUTO position on the 4-position 4WD Shift Switch (AUTO, 2WD, 4H, and 4LO).

Do you have the 3-position or 4-position 4WD Shift Switch?

I have the 3 position switch. 2wd, 4hi, 4lo. There is a blank between the 4wd switch and the VDC button. What goes into that blank?

Per pdf page 12 of the owners manual, it's the heated seat switch for the driver's seat. Left to right the switches are: 4WD, driver's heated seat, VDC, HDC, passenger's heated seat.

Interesting. I guess I will have to look under my seat and see if anything's there. Thanks.

Actually I forgot all about that. I never looked under the seat and never got any definitive answer. I still have to look under the seat although I don't have a clue what to look for as far as seat heating goes.
