05 Pathfinder also with CD problem

We bought an 05 last month (and stupidly didn't check the CD player 
)
It will take in a CD and displays 'disc error' and it spits them out.
It also rather nicely scratches them too
Nissan in Nottingham are useless and want to charge £1.5k ... I've stopped laughing at this quote now ... and need an alternative.
Firstly, how the hell do you get access the CD player - behind all that plastic ... with no hanes guide
Does anyone know of a way to replace it or add in an MP3 attachment
There is only so much dross I can take on the radio
