Whistler Mountain is named after the "whistling" marmot that lives in the area. The marmot makes a whistling sound to warn off intruders...who knew?

Thanks for sharing. I love BC & would live there in a hearbeat. Hadn't thought about throwing in a visit to Whistler during a summer visit, probably because the resorts I know of here are just crammed with yupsters and a gazillion mounain bikers. Doesn't look like you have the crowds there, which is great. Marmot watching can be pretty fun as they are naturally amusing creatures.

You're right, the village is packed with mountain bikers and their $4-5000k bikes. Makes mine look rather crappy. It is a nice place to live, I am quite lucky to be here.
