Death Valley related, and I believe I mentioned this in the Death Valley thread as well:

The official race guide:

All I can say is one word: psycho. Even if I could run that far, no way would I run that race. Near the end of the official guide is a list of the runners. Check out the ages of everyone.

I have run a few marathons. The guy that was my coach has run the badwater 2 or 3 times. Yes, he is crazy. When I run, if it gets over 80 degrees, I am done.

Pffft-forget the heat. To actually run 135 miles and ENJOY it is insane. I absolutely can't stand running because I can't pace myself & get bored within the first 5 minutes-that's why I play lots of soccer instead. If I knew, without a doubt, that I could run the 135 miles, then I'd start thinking about the heat. You won't find humidity any lower than in Death Valley, but the temperatures they face are still pretty mind blowing. I can't imagine having to change my shoes every few miles. I have phenomenal respect for those who can complete the thing.
