Let's Play: Guess This Noise

Noticed this noise about 2 weeks ago and it's getting louder. It's a whirrrrrrrr noise that has a 1:1 rate increase/decrease with speed so I'm guessing wheel bearing or u joint. It's loudest between 40-55mph. There are vibrations in the steering wheel, gear selector and floor boards although "small".

Anyone experience this? I'm going to start taking a look this week since the oil change is due.

Noise...usually a "growl" or "roar-like" noise that increases/decreases with the speed of the vehicle are usually wheel bearing noises. A "whining" noise that increases/decreases with the engine speed on these vehicles is typically the upper timing chain issue where the chain cuts into the tensioner faces. Bad U-joints can sometimes squeak or clunk, but are more often associated with the vibration at speed.

Initial follow up...

Decided to do wheel bearings, front struts (keeping stock springs), sway bar end links and bushings. Started Saturday and it's Monday.

Long story short - Lots of effort to get all the bolts out. Broke one of the sway bar bushing bolts and will take it to Nissan to drill out hopefully. 2 of 3 of the strut mount nuts fall apart when I put a wrench and turned on them so I'll have to cut them off. Not a ton of room (tried sawzall and angle grinder) so I'll have to try the Dremel with the 90 degree attachment. And, most of the parts on the shock were seized so had to order a couple more parts.
