I swear to God... Lately it's been EVERY OTHER WEEK with this damn thing. Everything that can go wrong HAS gone wrong, with the exception of getting water in the tranny. With my luck that'll happen next month despite doing the re-route.

p1283 this time... Cleared the code and it came back again. No other noticeable symptoms.

So I did a little research and it looks like a bad air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1 (kinda like an O2 sensor but not quite the same). Saw somewhere that you need to clear the mixture self-learning data (instructions here) after you replace it or else the code will likely come back again...

Sooooo in the off chance that it's a fluke I cleared the code, then cleared the mixture self-learning data. I'm sure it'll come back again, but it's worth a shot.

I'm ALMOST wondering if it has anything to do with using a spark plug defouler on the downstream o2 sensor, but don't really have any idea if there's any merit to that or not... just a hunch since I did that about a week ago.


In the mean time, can someone provide me with a nissan replacement part number? Did some digging but couldn't find it... about to dig some more now. Will report back if I figure it out.

P1283 is a "lean shift" code for the upstream, Bank 2, or driver's side A/F sensor. The spark plug anti-fouler on the downstream sensor won't cause this code to set. While it is likely to be caused by a faulty upstream B2 A/F sensor, it could also be caused by intake air leaks, low fuel pressure or a faulty/dirty fuel injector on Bank 2.

Thus far I've done about 40 miles and it hasn't come back, so there's a glimmer of hope, but it's good to know there's a solid, affordable option to a genuine sensor. Thanks!

Dammit. Well, the reset lasted about 2 weeks. I'll give it another try then buy an o2 sensor if it comes back.
